Deuxième album du sieur Quorthon qui sort en 1985, reprenant là où le 1er album éponyme s'était arrêté, un Black Metal primaire, cru et malsain.
De l'intro aux sonorités maléfiques et distordues jusqu'au titre culte "The return of the darkness and evil" qui clôture l'album, le Mal est palpable, sournois... Quelques titres se distinguent de ce disque qui sent le soufre "Total destruction" "Sadist" "Possessed" le mid-tempo "Born for burning" hymne de souffrance... Bathory pose là une nouvelle pierre à son noir édifice, une oeuvre qui marquera les générations à venir, lors du "Revival Black Metal" dans les débuts 90... Etienne - 24.07.03
