STARRATS
Interview with Post, guitarist of Danish heavy rockers Starrats. Interview/photos by Jean-Pierre Vacher, 20.8.2006.

HR80: Hi! Thanx for answering our questions! First of all, your new album 'Rebelütion' is out now, can you tell us about it?
Post: Well, it's a "No bullshit heavy rock n'roll in your face like a stab-wound" kind of album, with a bit of Punk and Metal for topping!!

HR80: Can you tell us about the evolution between the two albums?
Post: I think the biggest difference is the sound. It's a lot rougher now, and the album is a little harder than the old one,..  I'm a bit surprised how shocked Rebelütion have made a lot of people.... I actually don't think it's that much heavier than the old one.... songs like Slaughterh-h-house and Sinshine aren't more heavy than Demon or Possession King, but what the fuck do I know...I'm not the dude or chick on the other end of the speaker,.. It's kind of hard judging your own shit, because you have a tendency to listen for mistakes instead of just listening... I call it "Suicidal Tendencies"!!! ARGH!!  I'm so sorry 'bout that...he....he!

HR80: You produced the album yourselves. Do you think it's better, or would you like to work with a producer in the future?
Post: We're discussing these things right now actually. In the past it was very easy... we didn't have any fuckin' money for that kind of shit, so that's why we did it ourselves, but for the next one, something completely different will happen production-wise, I can promise you that...We're already like 80 % done with the songs, and then it's time to hit the studio around March April next year.... The working title for the album is "Do you wanna fight", but that might change 100.000 times before it's done...

HR80: How did you get familiar with the producing job? Would you like to produce other bands in the future?
Post: Ergh??! Dunno.... I actually didn't know what producing was until like 1 year ago. We just kind of recorded whatever we thought was cool, and cross our fingers that others might like it as well. About producing other bands, I don't know how the other guys feel 'bout it, but on my part I can definitely say; NO FUCKING WAY IN HELL!!! It ain't no fun when you ain't playing...

HR80: Do you have any favorite song on the new album?
Post: I think at the moment it's "Unleashed", but that changes all the time... I also really dig "Can You Scream" from the mp3, and if you boys n' grrls don't know what the hell I'm talking 'bout, you should check out the web-address on the left side of the front-cover...
Guitarwise, I'm probably most proud of the solo in Slaughterh-h-house, 'cause I think it fits the song very well, or the dildo/space-gun/wah solo in "The Angry Song"... I'm really into Tom Morello...

HR80: Ain't it difficult to be released on an American label when you're a European band? How did you find the deal with Perris?
Post: Ergh?! Not really...he....he!, We really didn't do anything but send a CD, and they said "Cool"! Chances are, they were stoned or drunk or something when they sent the contract....ha....ha....!

HR80: Do you plan on releasing the album on a European label, to get a better distribution here?
Post: It's out of our hands. It's up to Perris Records...

HR80: You did play few gigs in Denmark since the release of 'Rebelütion', do you plan on touring more?
Post: We just made a deal with a new booking agency yesterday, so hopefully yeah! I guess it depends on sales how far out in the world we'll go, but last time we released an album, we made it to England, so who knows.... I've been talking to some French bands about the possibility doing some gigs together in both Denmark and France, but all that shit is still on the drawingboard...

HR80: What are the strengths of Starrats?
Post: We've never played with a band we couldn't kill in a drinking contest...he....he! I would love to take on Mötorhead or Black Label Society....Yikes!!!

HR80: What are your plans for the future?
Post: Gigs, new album, booze endorsement, and world domination :-)

HR80: You seem to be very much into old school heavy metal, like Priest and Dio. But are there any current bands that you like?
Post: Oh yeah dude! Unlike a lot of people I know, I totally fuckin' dig the scene right now. Children Of Bodom, System Of A Down, Arch Enemy, Mastodon, Lars Frederiksen And The Bastards, Muse (..with the exception of their new crappy album), Saliva, The Darkness, and a little Dragonforce to top it off old school ;-)
I also recently discovered two insanely cool French bands.... Maladaptive and Carnival In Coal both kick major ass!!! Nico used to play with the Maladaptive guys back when they were called Suxeed, and I immediately became a fan of Frederic Leclercqs brilliant guitar-playing... that guy is a psycho, and his bass playing in Dragonforce burns too.... by the way, Nico got drunk at their house once and accidently took a piss in their studio......ha ha ha!! If he ever reads this, he'll kick my ass......:-)
Carnival In Coal is like a modern version of Mothers Of Invention gone Death Metal..... They're really good at whatever the hell it is they're doing, and they crack me up bigtime!

HR80: One last word for the French:
Post: Thanx a bunch for reading this dudes n' chicks! If you haven't already, go out and buy the new album NOW.... It really sucks, but I need the money for alcohol, hookers and drugs.... ha....ha.....ha.....ahhhh shit! I'm a moron...

HR80 : Thanx a lot!
