PRIDE OF LIONS

How did you meet and how did you decide to work together?
I met toby first when my singing niece kelly brought him to my studio- she was raving about this guy who she had just met at a dick clark productions audition- we met, we clicked and i immediately tried him out on a duet with kelly- when i was looking for a singer for pride of lions- he was my first choice.

Tobty, you have an awesome voice. How long have you been singing and who are the singers that have influenced you?
I have been singing basically since i was about 4 years old- i am the son of a preacher so the singing in church was always a big part of my life- i am influenced by many of the great american soul singers but also love the great rock voices like the singers of toto, foreigner, survivor, journey and kansas- they wrote the book as far as i am concerned- with the pride of lions record i got to really stretch out and show some of those influences.

Jim, you already have an astonishing musical career, why did you decide to engage yourself into another challenge?
I believe you have to keep challengeing yourself to stay vital- i dont like to sit back and live in the past- the past is nice- but the future is more exciting to me- making new music- bringing it to audiences new and old alike.

Are you aware that this album is very good (laughs)?
We felt very strong about the album as we were making it- we couldnt wait to get to the studio everyday because we knew we were on to something- of course the audience is the final judge- but we are satisfied that we did our best

What are you favorites tunes on this album, and why?
I personally love "Music and Me" probably because it is really about my love affair with rock and roll since i was very young- i think alot of people can relate to the story though- through thick and thin- the music has never let me down- it has been my salvation in bad times and my inspiration in goo times.

Will this album be distributed only in Europe or do you think there is still an audience for this kind of music in the USA?
I am hoping there is. my son is 14 and he and his friends only listen to great classic rock- if there was new great albums in this format-- who knows??!!

Is PRIDE OF LIONS only a session band or do you plan to tour?
Toby and i are doing a promo tour of europe in november- but we hope to do a full band electric tour in feb or mar 04- full metal jacket- sweat and all!

The guitar parts are sometimes amazing ('Turn To Me'). Who plays the solos, Jim or Mike Aquino?
Actually it is mike and i trading off - i play the odd numbered solos and he plyes the even- we did it live in the studio and had a blast feeding off each other- he kicked my ass though- guess ill keep practicing!

One last word for the readers of this interview
Toby and i want to say thank you for listening to this album- pride of lions is one older guy (guess who!) who has been around the black a few times and a new guy who has the voice, the soul and the passion of what we all loved about melodic rock- hopefully you will all come with us on this ride- keep rocking!!
