KEE MARCELLO

For a lot of people, you disappeared from the music scene after Europe split up. Can you tell us what did you do since '92/'93?
Kee Marcello: The “Red Fun” album came in 1993, it was a collaboration with Easy Action drummer Freddie Von Gerber, my first solo, “Shine On”, in 1995, since then I’ve been writing and producing in my own studio here in Gothenburg. Me and another musician, ZAL, produced and wrote for a number of performers, notably three albums for Pandora in Japan, (two of them gold rewarded) the smash hit “Bang Bang Boom” which was the first single on the Moffats album “Submodalities”, produced by Bob Rock. I also produced and co-wrote the album “Happy Man Don’t Kill” for ex-Hollies singer Mikael Rickfors.

Can you introduce the musicians that play on your album?
Yeah, Snowy Shaw playing the drums used to be in King Diamond and Mercyful Fate, Ken Sandin on Bass comes from Transport League and Alien.

How would you qualify the musical style of 'Melon Demon Divine'?
Dark, brutal, fierce, futuristic, bittersweet, melodic!!

Aren't you afraid that your hardcore fans should be surprised, or even disappointed by the musical style that you deliver on this album?
I think my hardcore fans are used to me by now! I can’t just write music someone is expecting me to do. This is what I’m doing now.

Impossible not to talk about Europe's reunion. Where you contacted by Joey Tempest to be part of this reunion?
Yes, and I told him that I passed on the new album, but that I was thinking that I wanted to do the tour. Later on it turned out that I don’t have the time necessary to pull it off.

Many 80's bands reformed recently, what do you think about that?
Well, I like reunions, but having said that, most of them stink! I’m sure Europe won’t, though.

Isn't it hard to tour the entire planet 3 times headlining with Europe and now to start it all over again from basically nothing?
Of course it’s not the same, it takes time to build a band up. But it’s got a lot of advantages: I can play only my own stuff and I never have to play the “F”-song again!

In retrospect, what do you think of these two records you made with Europe?
I think there are better songs on them now, compared to what I thought about it then. My playing is all there, I think. Out Of This World contains some amazing stuff. Even though “Prisoners In Paradise” is musically all there, the problem with it was that we recorded a way heavier version that got scrapped by EPIC, and that it arrived in the midst of grunge.

And what about the records you made with Easy Action?
Easy Action was the first hard rock band out of Sweden to ever get international recognition; besides ABBA we were the originals. I think the energy in EA was fantastic, and in a way they mean more to me than Europe.

Will you tour in Europe? Will we have the chance to see you live in France?
We will do a European tour starting this fall. Of course we will come to France!

One last word for the French fans
You have to go and see K2 play live; it’s just amazing! I promise you haven’t heard anything like it!

Thanks a lot!
Thank You.
