On My Own

HR80: Hi Jennyfer! So you've turned solo, why did you decide to make this choice?
JENNYFER STAR: It was goin really well for Starlet Suicide but I wanted to do something different. For a long time I felt like I had to write songs in a certain genre and that if I wrote a good song that wasn´t exactly 'our type' it went to waste. I wanted to be able to record whatever I came up with, and be proud of it, instead of throwing it away.

HR80: You just released a 2 tracks EP. Why didn't you wait to have more songs before releasing an EP?
JENNYFER: I do have more than two songs. My intention was to record four songs but I felt like it was better to focus on the two best ones instead of recording more songs with a not so good result.

I also felt like I had a time limit in one way, I wanted to release the new stuff as soon as possible because I knew there was many fans that didn´t understand that my solo project would be just as good as Starlet.

HR80: You have Mia from CRUCIFIED BARBARA as a guest on the EP. How did you get her to sing on your EP, and how was it to work with her?
JENNYFER: I didn´t want to do all the backing vocals myself since it would get so much more vivid with a second voice. So I asked Mia, who is a friend of mine, and she gladly helped me out. It was awesome working with her. She is such a talented woman! And we had a lot of fun during the process!

HR80: 'Be The Same' is a pretty long and complex song compared to others songs you did with STARLET SUICIDE. How did you work on it? Where did the inspiration come from?

JENNYFER: Yeah, “Be The Same” is a lot different from my old stuff and I was a bit afraid that my old fans wouldn´t like it. But it turned out really well! The inspiration came from one of the first day from spring here in Stockholm. I had just recovered from a deep depression and the nite before I had gotten drunk for the first time in two months. So, I was a bit hungovered and I was walking my dog in the sunshine. And suddenly I saw the world in a different shade. I felt like things will finally change. Even though the song is pretty dreamy and have a dark light over it, the lyrics still have a hopefull meaning. At first it was a pretty simple song but I re-arranged it a bit with the producers and it turned out with pretty clean guitars and vocals. Not at all as it was meant to be in the first place. But I´m really happy about how it turned out!

HR80: You were also the songwriter in STARLET SUICIDE. What is the difference between the band and JENNYFER STAR solo?
JENNYFER: As I mentioned earlier I can now do whatever I want to. There´s no unwritten law about which genre I should focus on, even though it will still be rock.

HR80: You also did a cover of BETTY BLOWTORCH for a tribute album. How did you get this opportunity?
JENNYFER: I found out that they were putting together a tribute cd so I just contacted them and said I was interested.

HR80: How did you choose the song you covered? Is it your favorite tune by BETTY BLOWTORCH?
JENNYFER: Betty Blowtorch is one of my favourite band of all times and I would actually want to do a cover of each and every song they have made hehe..

'Size Queen' used to be one of my favourite songs but I have grown to love other songs. But this one was one of the songs that wasn´t taken.. I was thinking about doin “Big Hair Broken Heart” but still wanted to do a more rockin track so I chose this one instead.

HR80: Do you have more songs in your vault? Do you plan on releasing a longer EP, or even an album?
JENNYFER: Yes! I do have plenty of songs. Some new ones and some pretty new ones and A LOT of ideas in my head. So hopefully I will record a few more tracks pretty soon. I am waiting for the right record company to get in touch with me to do a full-length album.

HR80: Will you tour as a solo artist? Are there any plans yet?
JENNYFER: I will definitely tour as a solo artist. Nothing is booked right now but hopefully I will set a few dates after the summer.

HR80: Do you know what's going to happen with STARLET SUICIDE?
JENNYFER: Right now, we all are pretty satisfied with the situation. So there wont be a re-union yet. Maybe some day!

HR80: What are you plans for the future?
JENNYFER: To get a full-length album out and to go on a tour to spread my new music all over the world!

HR80: Thanx a lot and good luck!
