Interview with Jani Lane, songwriter/performer.
HardRock80.com would like to thank Sheila Lussier (who make it possible to us to do this interview.)

HR80 : Hey Jani ! how are you doing now?
JL- Just fine, thank you for asking!

HR80 : Here in Europe we get nothing but gossip or pieces of writing grabbed here and there about what you are yet up too? Could be so sweet to summarize the negative and positive sides since you left Warrant?
JL- The positive side is I have done a solo record, « Back Down to One. » I have put together a new band. Done a Television show and just completed a project with members of Alice Cooper and Ratt.
The Negative has been simply being concerned that the fans of Warrant are going to see the band live and expecting to see me performing with them. I don't think the Band is being clear enough about informing people that there is a new singer in Warrant.

HR80 : How are your solo projects going ? Any new cd coming soon? What about Jaberwocky ?
JL- As far as Jaberwocky goes all I can say is some day. My solo record « Back Down to One» was recently released in the States and I'll be starting a new solo record next year.

HR80 : What about your « Angel City Outlaw » project?
JL- Angel City Outlaws has changed it's name to Saints of the Underground. We just finished the record. We had Andy Johns mix it. (Zeppelin, Stones, Godsmack) I think it sounds great should be out in early 2007.

HR80 : Looking back, what about the 80s? Are you happier now or back then?
JL- I think you have to find a way to be happy at what ever situation your in or what ever point your at in your life. As a musician I like to reach as many people as possible with my music but honestly as long as I am writing new songs and creating that keeps me relatively content!

HR80 : Are you still in touch with some actors of the Hair Metal wave ?
JL- I see a few of them from time to time but I have made a point of trying to stay out of the party scene.

HR80 : What are your memories of that concert where you opened for Iron Maiden in Paris?
JL- I remember the crowd throwing people 50ft in the air with a giant blanket. And how well Iron Maiden treated us !

HR80 : Well, talking about memories, tell us about the early days of Warrant, of Plain Jane, of the Sunset Strip during the golden age of the 80s. Things like: with what bands or dudes were you hanging around then? Who were your
favourite bands? Have you had moments of disbelief, of despair, telling yourself : Nah it's too hard, we'll never make it? Great moments of happiness too?

JL- I can't honestly we ever had a bad time even when we were struggling to get a record deal. Then again the whole thing is a blur so I could be wrong (lol)

HR80 : If you were given the opportunity to change something in your career as a singer, what would it be?
JL- I would of paid more attention to the fine print.

HR80 : How do you see the come back of Joey Allen and Steven Sweet among the Warrant team?
JL- I always figured they would get back into the mix. It was just a matter of time.

HR80 : We do guess you have listened to this new Warrant. Any comments about it?
JL- The Production's pretty good.

HR80 : Are you conscious that you have a truly faithful fan base in Europe, even among the new generations of hard rock addicts? (hehe we hope you do!)
JL-My Manager and the Promoters keep telling me otherwise. I will keep pushing me and maybe someday the stars will line up and I will be able to come back and play in Europe.

HR80 : Among your immediate or in- a-near-future projects, is there any dates in Europe ?
JL- None that I know of.

HR80 : We've got the feeling that there is a huge gap between the image that many had of Jani Lane and what you really are. Have you already been told that before?

JL- You obviously have never seen me throw a duck around the kitchen. I am pretty wild when I am singing in the shower too.

HR80 : Why so few albums ?
JL- In the process of making more.

HR80 : What do you think about the current Hair Metal Revival ?
JL- I think it's fantastic. I think it is a style of music that is very underrated!

HR80 :If you were about to gather the perfect band (and according that you were given the full thumb up to hire who you want) who would you hire? As the rhythm section ? As the lead guitarist? (no you can't cheat on that one !)
LOL) JL- John Bonham on drums, Phil Lynott on bass, and I would two guitarist Joe Perry and Jimmy Page and keys give me Elton John.

HR80 : I've heard that in 1994, Warrant had thought about Jesse Harte (ex Southgang) to fill up the place in the band that you had left vacant. Is that true? Have you thought: another hot blonde to replace me?
JL- I never heard that one. But they did get a blonde to eventually replace me.

HR80 : Who are the best buddies you had been touring with?
JL- Too many to mention. I can't honestly say I have ever really disliked anyone I have toured with. But I wouldn't tour with Glen Danzig or Kevin Dubrow again !

HR80 : A last word for your frenchy fanz ?
JL- I can't wait to come and play there again ! For anyone who hasn't ever played France I think it is something to really look forward too the audience knows how to truly make you feel welcome ! Vive le France !
